Pato O’Ward gave his response to McLaren teammate Christian Lundgaard’s comments suggesting the Arrow McLaren oval setup is essentially built around O’Ward. Lundgaard told Will Buxton on Speed last week that Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist are going to struggle against O’Ward on ovals next year because of how different the intra-team setups are.

“Everyone in IndyCar is like in their little island. I know Christian loves to say that everything is made for me, and he loves to say that the car only goes to the address that I ask.”

Then he got to the point. “That thing that says that only the oval program is for what I want, is pure shit, as we love to say in English, he is full of shit, is not true.”

O’Ward says the reality is the opposite of what Lundgaard is claiming. “If I remember, most of all the tracks, we’re always on opposite sides of the setup. He develops his car, and I develop mine, and in fact in several races, if one is struggling a lot, he goes to the setup of the other and does better.”

Alex Palou clinched his fifth IndyCar championship at The Milwaukee Mile on Sunday with a race to spare. He has won five titles in six seasons with 4 of them being consecutive championships. The youngest five-time champion in American open-wheel history. A.J. Foyt needed eight seasons to reach five. At 29 years old he is nowhere near done, and Chip Ganassi Racing has now passed Team Penske for the most championships in IndyCar history with 18. 🏆

Lia Block won her first overall victory at the national level of U.S. rallying on Saturday, taking the Ojibwe Forests Rally in Minnesota by more than two minutes. The 19-year-old now leads the ARA National Championship standings by 21 points with two rounds remaining. The daughter of the late Ken Block won the ARA Open Two-Wheel-Drive title at 16, competed in F1 Academy in 2025, and is now closing in on a national rally championship. 🤙

IndyCar had to walk back a premature announcement this week after Barranquilla’s mayor publicly declared the Colombian city had secured an IndyCar race for April 2028. Qatar and Abu Dhabi are still on the calendar but the ongoing Middle East conflict has both races under threat, and CEO Stefano Domenicali confirmed a decision won’t come before mid-September. Domenicali ruled out a Las Vegas double-header and a second COTA race outright. Imola is the most realistic European backup with a December finale on the table. 🏎️

IndyCar’s inaugural Freedom 250 in Washington D.C. just got bigger. The race has been extended from 125 to 147 laps to create a true 250-mile race in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. It runs through Pennsylvania Avenue and around the National Mall on August 23 and the extra laps are expected to force at least one additional pit stop. 🇺🇸

Pfaff Motorsports is leaving IMSA at the end of the season after building one of the most respected programs in the paddock. The Ontario-based team won GTD and GTD Pro titles in 2021 and 2022 with Porsche before moving to McLaren and then Lamborghini. Owner Chris Pfaff is shifting focus to developing Canadian Tire Motorsport Park into a year-round facility but left the door open for a future return in some form. 🏁
